Some companies use an employee time sheet to keep up with their employees and time worked for the week. This free, downloadable and easily customizable employee time sheet can be used to keep you on track of your employees.

Using the Free and Printable Employee Time Sheet

It is easy to use and pretty self-explanatory. On the top of the template it has a place for the employee’s name, status within the company, supervisor over the employee, department, and title of the job. This can be filled in by the employee or the information can be filled in before it is ready to be used.

It contains columns for date, start time, end time, regular hours worked, overtime hours worked, and total number of hours for the day worked. Each day this information can be entered in according to the hours worked by the employee. After the work week is finished, the total number of hours is calculated and compared to the supervisor’s attendance sheet. If there are no discrepancies, then both the employee and supervisor will sign and date the sheet.

This employee time sheet helps both the company and employee keep a more accurate count for the hours worked from day to day. To better understand the breakdown of the day to day use of the time sheet, you enter in your start time. And to calculate your regular verses your overtime hours, always remember that anything over 8 hours a day is considered overtime. If your regular day is only 7 hours and you stayed over an hour, that is considered a regular 8-hour work day. Not 7 regular hours with one hour overtime.

If there happens to be a day that an employee is absent, then just entering in a zero in the blanks provided can help keep the hours on track. This prevents an error from being made by the end of the week.

The sheet is then sent to the payroll department so that the employee can be paid for the number of hours they worked. This employee time sheet can be used from week to week because of its simplicity. It is easy to read and understand for both the employer and the employee. It allows the employer to either print if off or use it online so that each week it can be cleared for employees to update their work hours the following payroll.
